    we left Shantou

    进入了粤东名城 潮州

    and came to Chaozhou, a famous city

    in eastern Guangdong.

    潮州历史悠久 人文荟萃

    Chaozhou is home to many talented

    people and has a very long history.

    自古就有“到广不到潮

    It has been said since ancient

    times that

    白白走一遭”的说法

    a visit to Guangdong without seeing

    Chaozhou is a trip in vain.

    古城墙巍峨雄壮

    It has a magnificent ancient

    city wall.

    广济桥造型独特

    The Guangji Bridge distinguishes

    itself by its unique design.

    二十四座造型各异的亭台楼阁

    The 24 pavilions of various styles

    on it

    构成了韩江上

    form the most fascinating spectacle

    一道最著名的风景

    over the Hanjiang River.

    唐朝的韩愈

    Han Yu of the Tang Dynasty

    为潮州教育事业

    laid a good foundation

    打下了良好的基础

    for the development of education

    in Chaozhou.

    之后潮州涌现出了许多人才

    Since then Chaozhou has produced

    many talented people,

    素有“海滨邹鲁”的美誉

    thus winning the title of Coastal

    Home of Confucianism.

    饶宗颐先生便是其中一位

    One of the talented men

    was Rao Zongyi.

    无论人文历史 还是书画艺术

    He was versed in Chinese

    history and culture and also

    都有着不凡的造诣

    exceptionally good at painting

    and calligraphy.
