Nine-Bend Stream.

这九曲溪的“曲”是什么意思呢？
what does the "qu" in Jiu Qu
Xi mean?
韩佳： “曲”就是弯曲的意思。
"Qu" means a bend.
那这条溪水呢
This stream
是绕着山自西向东流淌的，
flows from west to east around
the mountain,
形成了九个大弯。
forming nine big bends.
所以啊人们才给它起了这个名字。
That's why people gave it
this name.
王渊源：其实，在山上看这九曲溪
Actually, when we looked down at
the stream from the mountaintop
就已经很美了。
it was already beautiful enough.
谁知道，走近了看就更美。

when we see it up close.

都是逆流行船，
they all sailed upstream

up to the ninth bend.
那我们今天呢，
And today we're doing just
the opposite
正好跟古人相反，
of what the ancients did,
是顺流而下，
traveling downstream
从九曲到一曲。

down to the first bend.
王渊源：那我们现在到了几曲了？
Which bend have we reached now?
韩佳： 你看，

那边的岩壁上不是写着呢嘛。
it's all written on the rock face.

韩佳： 是啊。要说起来啊，

在游览九曲的时候，

写下的《九曲棹歌》中的一首。

那我们刚才说的“总共”是个副词，

后来，就有人把这《九曲棹歌》

the nine poems respectively
刻在了九曲溪的各曲的岩壁上。

我还记得《九曲棹歌》的开头
I still remember the first few lines
是这样写的。

“武夷山上有仙灵，
"There are gods on Wuyi Mountain.
山下寒流曲曲清。”
Each bend of the stream
here is cool and clear."
旁白： 九曲溪的水深浅不一，
The water at different bends of

流速也时缓时急。
and flows at different speeds.
我们的竹筏顺着溪水前进。

Legend has it that
赤脚大仙在这里晾晒布匹。
the Barefoot Immortal once hung
some cloth to dry on it.
因为当时的阳光十分猛烈，
The strong sunshine was
so hot
把布匹呢都晒化了。
that it melted the cloth.
一缕一缕地融进了岩壁中，
The melting cloth dripped into
the rock face,
所以啊
thus forming
就形成了我们现在看到的这个样子。
the patterns we see today.
那因此呢，
For this reason,
这仙掌峰又有了另外一个名字，
Xianzhang Peak has another name,
叫晒布岩。
The Cloth-Drying Rock.

人们当时非常善于造船，

于是有人死去的时候啊，
they made boat-shaped coffins
他们就会用船形的木棺来安葬他们。

然后呢，把木棺放在悬崖上。
