慧慧：Nathan，看人家踢得花毽，你是否也入乡随俗，想更多地了解一下这个非常具有中国特色的运动呢？

　　Nathan：哈哈，慧慧，这回你可没有完全说对。

　　慧慧：怎么?

　　Nathan：不信我们就来踢两个。

　　两人开踢，Nathan表现的比慧慧还好…

　　慧慧：嘿，真没看出来，Nathan 你什么时候练就的这手活儿呀？

　　Nathan：什么“这手活儿”，这叫“脚上功夫”。

　　慧慧：别管叫什么，我想知道你从哪儿学会的踢键子。

　　Nathan：That’s what I want to tell you. Although jianzi has a long history in china, similar Kicking games are played everywhere around the world。

　　慧慧： 你是说毽子虽然历史很长，但相似的kicking game在世界上许多地区都有? 那它们都踢这种feather shuttle么？

　　Nathan：No，some place kick bag, some place kick ball, and some place, like in china, kick feather shuttle. Do you remember when we did 藤球， 我们提到过一种在西方许多国家都流行的相似游戏：footbag.

　　慧慧：哦。你这么一说，我也想起来了。好像是一种同中国民间踢的沙包差不多的游戏？

　　Nathan：yeah, that’s also called hacky sack.

　　慧慧：Hacky sack. 这sack不也是一种bag么？和foot bag有什么区别么？

　　Nathan：都是指用脚来踢的那种小包。Hacky sack was just the original name of footbag.

　　慧慧：the original name of footbag. 那看来这个Hacky sack的年头还不短呢？

　　Nathan：well, compared with jianzi, you can’t say it has a long history. It was invented in 1972.

　　慧慧：1972？嘿，我说Nathan, 这毽子在中国可从汉代就有了，两千多年了。

　　Nathan：阿，我可不是想比历史。我只是想说，在今天，这种kicking game已经在全世界各地为不同国家的人们介绍和喜爱，只不过叫法有点不一样而已。

　　慧慧：诶，这么一说，我觉得还是有必要记住这几个词，免得再同老外交流的时候，说完了毽子二字，还要什么flying feather, feather shuttle 之类的解释一通。一个foot bag和hacky sack, 不同文化概念就可以马上得到沟通了。

　　DRILL1:

　　Kicking games: foot bag; hacky sack

　　慧慧：了解了“外国沙包”的叫法，我们还真想了解一下，这老外在两千多年后是怎么也想到玩起和我们的毽子相似的游戏的。

　　Nathan： 啊，这个么，要从一个叫做John Stalberger,足球运动员说起。一天，他看到一个人正在 kicking around a handmade beanbag.

　　慧慧：a beanbag?

　　Nathan：啊，bean, 就是豆子，所以beanbag，it’s a bag full of bean, 是不是也可以翻成什么…“豆包”。

　　慧慧：豆包？那是吃的。中文里可不管你袋子里装的是沙子、石头，还是豆子，我们都叫“沙包”。

　　Nathan：那我就不管了，反正it’s something originally from Asia countries, 这个Stalberger 觉得这项运动would be beneficial as physical therapy for his injured knee.

　　慧慧：physical therapy ？

　　Nathan：physical therapy 就是我们常说的理疗。

　　慧慧：噢？你是说这个发明Hacky sack的老外，最早是因为看上踢沙包可以作为治疗手段治疗他受伤的膝盖？我以前还真没关心过玩游戏对身体有什么好处。

　　Nathan：好处多了，最近，许多 American physiotherapists 就利用footbags to aid knee rehabilitation.

　　慧慧：rehabilitation？

　　Nathan： 就是指从伤病中“复原、康复”的意思。

　　DRILL2 :

　　physical therapy : - hey, what are you doing there?

　　rehabilitation :

　　Nathan：就是因为footbag的有许多健身娱乐功能，people created a game called Hack the Sack in which they kicked the beanbag back and forth without it hitting the ground.

　　慧慧：kick the bag back and forth without it hitting the ground. 看来真的和我们平常玩沙包的方法差不多。

　　Nathan： 后来，那个叫Stalberger 的就创建了一个Hacky Sack 的协会，and established official rules and made it a formal sport event. And later on, the footbag developed into two styles

　　慧慧：发展成两种形式？那是什么？

　　Nathan：Next time.
